Our range of Cadence Ian Gordon Double Handed Fly Rods have been designed to provide the best actions required by salmon and trout anglers. Our rods have interchangeable sections, allowing you to change the action of the rod to suit your casting technique and the fishing situation you’re facing. All our rods are available in the standard configuration which is designed for the majority of anglers. By altering the weave of the micro fibres within the cloth, we use T-Mesh to make specific sections stiffer or softer without adding weight. When you have our standard rod, you can change the action by buying two different sections:

Full Flex – This is a parabolic action, some would describe it as soft, slow or through action. This is a rod that performs perfectly for those with a Long Stroke technique. From the people we see on the riverbank, 25 –30% would find this works for them.

Fast – This fast action rod has the stiffest butt section and is the action of rod favouring the Scandi or underhand technique.

This means that you only ever need to buy one rod of a length, you can then swap out the sections to change the action of the rod, giving you fantastic versatility for all fishing situations. This video explains how the concept works.

About Cadence Ian Gordon 14ft 6in Double Handed Rods

#9 Standard – This will be one of our most popular combinations. The slightly stiffer butt sections bringing out the best in the blank when cast with a short (Scandi) or long (Traditional) stroke technique. Matched with the correct line, you will enjoy an incredible fishing experience. This is a set up for large rivers such as the Spey, Tay, Tweed, Gaula and because all are six pieces, great for travelling to places such as Norway and Canada.

Additional Sections

#8 Full Flex – This is our go to rod for fishing traditional sinking lines on rivers in Spring and Autumn. This is for long traditional floating lines. Bending right to the butt, the action of the rod lends itself to a traditional style of casting and, although a little long, performs well with Skagit lines too. Those rods are a joy to play larger spring and Autumn fish on river such as the Spey, Dee, Tay and Tweed.

#10 Fast Action – This version of the rod is a work horse, perfectly suited to Scandi style fishing on large rivers with short head lines and a classic underhand technique. It also lends itself to those fishing with a slightly heavier line and a more traditional technique. This is a rod that can bully bigger salmon, playing them hard and fast if necessary. The action is fast and progressive leading to smooth transfer of energy.

1 review for Cadence CF20 Ian Gordon 14ft 6in Fly Rod

  1. Owen

From Owen who purchased this rod at Cadence Fly Fishing Open Day: A fantastic through action, the rod is doing the business. Done a few spey casts and a few different manoeuvres with everything to my expectation. With one last cast I fired it over the far railing below, a few of the guys ran and ducked. I said, that will do me. You’ve nailed it again with a rod like the Hardy Marksman 2, but this new rod fits way better in my hands and is less work to cast with my arms. I’ll be firing this out hopefully soon down the Galway Weir at home. I just hope it doesn’t fly high into the car park!
